Sharpie Show II

Starting December 4, 2010 I will officially have art hanging in a real-life art gallery. Hollll-errr

About three weeks ago I was invited to participate in an exhibit called The Sharpie Show 2, which takes place at Crewest Gallery in Los Angeles. I eagerly responded with a yes, and then promptly started freaking out. The panic was two-fold:  1. I don't have any art... I have given it all away. For me the satisfaction comes in the doing, more so than the admiring, so when a friend or whoever mentions they like a piece, my response it, "Thanks, you can have it." and  2. I have never displayed work or prepared work for display in a gallery before. Where to begin???

So after a trip to the local Antiques Depot (thank you Laurie Hillesheim) for old frames, another to Home Depot (for plexiglass and screwposts), I had a platform and a spark of inspiration. Armed with 15 or so Sharpies and a can of spray paint, I set to work

Now, I just wouldn't be me if the next sentence started with something like, "I got started right away, knocking out a bunch of amazing work....". No , No. I spent a good two weeks thinking, stressing, anxiously crumbling up failed attempts at good art, until I decided to just play... to pretend like I was drawing for fun rather than money or notoriety. And voila! The most surprising work appeared on the page, and I can honestly say, I'm proud of what I've done. With the help of a handy tool-man (thanks Tony), and about $100 in packaging and shipping, my first six gallery pieces were overnight-ed to L.A.

My buddy Amy Kuck and I tried to capture the pieces in photographic form the best we could, expressly for your viewing pleasure. I am so excited to see what happens with the work (lol. Think it'll make me rich?).
